Shoot Above Par’s mission is to use golf to teach children in Erie, PA (ages 4-16) to value persistence, strive for achievement and remain resilient.
In 2010 Attorney Elvage Murphy, an avid, above par golfer, began sharing his joy and appreciation for golf with children in Erie, Pennsylvania. He and his wife Janel, began by sponsoring children within their church to take golf lessons with local instructors. As word spread of this initiative, the Murphy family, along with a host of committed parents, grandparents, and members of our law enforcement community, began convening at a local golf learning center to teach, share and demonstrate the game of golf to kids.
For nearly 6 years, Attorney Murphy and the Shoot Above Par families have provided over 25 children golf equipment and the opportunity to learn and play the game. Shoot Above Par emphasizes establishing and maintaining relationships among its participants. Through these relationships, three key principles are emphasized–Persistence, Achievement and Resilience (PAR).
